FAQs about how to setup your lambs for optimum performance this season

  1. How much protection is enough? We say antibodies are like money, more is generally always better, as this gives your stock the best chance of overcoming the disease challenge no matter how high the challenge is.
  2. Why don’t some animals respond to the vaccine? Vaccines work with an animals own immune systems. If animals are stressed, have other diseases, or are underfed their immune system will struggle. As a result, they may produce less antibodies or may not respond to the vaccine at all. Giving them Multine® gives them the best chance.
  3. Isn’t one shot enough? No. As illustrated by the animation the first time an animal is vaccinated only a small antibody response occurs which is not usually very protective and is short-lived (lasting a few weeks rather than up to one year). If animals are given a booster (a subsequent dose) at the correct time, a stronger and longer (often 12 months) lasting antibody response occurs.
  4. The video highlights the need for two shots 4-6 weeks apart, what if the time between vaccinations is longer? Talk to your animal health advisor, and if they are unsure call MSD Animal Health on 0800 800 543 and ask to speak to one of our Veterinary Technical Advisors.
  5. Can vaccinated animals still get sick? Yes. Nothing offers 100% protection, but Multine comes close!See the animation for more details.
  6. What are some other key differences between Multine® and Ultravac®?

  1. Is a product with a smaller 1ml dose really more animal friendly? There is no evidence to support this in animals.
  2. The Multine trial only compares the 5-in-1’s Multine® and Ultravac®. How does Coglavax® 8-in-1 compare? Coglavax®8 wasn’t part of the local Wairarapa trial, so we don’t have data to compare this. Coglavax® 8 is produced in Europe and does not have readily available local trial data that we can use to compare the products.

Multine® is available from leading vets and rural retailers.
