Footrot is a common cause of lameness in sheep and is an important health and welfare issue that affects sheep of all ages.

A contagious disease caused by bacteria, footrot causes visible pain, and can cause economic losses from reduced growth rates, decreased wool production, reduced fertility in ewes and rams, as well as increased costs of treatment, labour and premature culling.
